Toy Fair 2004: Harry Potter

LEGO®

The LEGO® showroom is always a Harry Potter highlight of Toy Fair, and this year was no exception. LEGO and Harry Potter seem to go together perfectly. The toys have earned two T.O.T.Y.'s (Toy of The Year) awards at previous Toy Fairs, for best activity toy and best licensed toy. There are six new sets coming in 2004 based completely on POA, and new versions of previously released sets like Hagrid's Hut, Hogawarts Castle and Hogwarts Express. And this time out, the Hogwarts Express is motorized. You'll have to wait until September for that, but everything else will be out in May, in time for POA. And as usual, the mini-figures are terrific.

Especially awesome is set 4755 the Knight Bus. It's 242 pieces, many of which are purple, and one of which is a shrunken head. Plus, Harry in street clothes.

4750 Draco's Encounter with Buckbeak is a smaller 36 piece set that is one of two that include Buckbeak.

4751 Harry and the Marauder's Map, 106 pieces. Harry's got his new POA style Gryffindor tie on as he reveals the secret passage to Hogsmeade. Snape's included too.

4752 Professor Lupin's Classroom, 155 pieces. Defense Against the Dark Arts is a big topic. Neville Longbottom, Professor Lupin and a "specially-dressed" Snape are incuded in this set.

4753 Sirius Black's Escape, 188 pieces. LEGO Dementor mini-figure. Sold. And, oh yeah. As an added bonus, you get the whole tower and Harry and Buckbeak and Sirius. Harry finds the hidden key to release Sirius in this set.

4754 Hagrid's Hut, 302 pieces. Hagrid and Hermione are included in this neat look inside the Hut, complete with little creatures and a pumpkin patch.

4756 Shrieking Shack, 444 pieces. Lupin (with Lupin's werewolf head), Harry, and Sirius as a dog all come with this most haunted building in all of London. The way back to Hogwarts is through the trap door in the floor of Honeydukes candy shop.

4757 Hogwarts Castle. This new take on Hogwarts comes with Dumbledore and Professor Trelawney, all three kids (Harry Ron and Hermione) and not one, but two Dementors, which guard the entrance to the grounds. Moving staircases and the Owlery, the big clock.

4758 Hogwarts Express, 386 pieces. Harry and Ron in street clothes mini-figures! The boys are ready for year three when they run into a Dementor. But luckily Professor Lupin is nearby in this set, which includes the train platform, and two cars (the boiler and the passenger wagon)

10132 Motorized Hogwarts Express, 544 pieces. Harry and Ron in street clothes, Lupin and the Dementor are all here in this motorized version, with a more extensive station, a third car and loads of track to send the Hogwarts Express on its way.
